Messianic Exegesis:
Christological Interpretation of the Old Testament in Early Christianity
Donald Juel |

 |
Professor Juel has given us a brilliant work of disciplined imagination.
Needless to say, there is room for criticism of and disagreement with Professor Juel's conclusions. For the most
part the detailed discussions do not obscure our view of the forest, but sometimes the argument is not as clear as
it might be. His book makes an extremely valuable contribution not only to the study of how the earliest
Christians interpreted the Hebrew Scriptures but also to our understanding of Christian origins. Moreover, I
should agree that the conclusions of the book are crucial for contemporary Christian theology because they mean we
must "begin with the cross." Finally, Professor Juel rightly recognizes that he has by no means brought the
discussion to an end. His study "requires several additional volumes." Let us hope that he will continue his work
and supply us with some of those volumes.

Hebrews Through a
Hebrew's Eyes
By: Stuart Sacks |

 |
Dr. Stuart Sacks, himself a Messianic Jew, offers
insights into Hebrews that only a Jewish believer in Yeshua (Jesus) can give. Since the first century when the
letter was written, Orthodox Jewish thinking has remained essentially unchanged. Dr. Sacks has drawn on his
personal knowledge of that perspective to give the reader a Semitic perspective on the contents of the letter and
the outlook of those who first read it.

The Walk Torah! Series
Jeff Greenberg, Ph.D. |

* |
*As you “walk Torah,” your spiritual journey takes you
from Eden, through the flood, into the Promised Land, and down to Egypt and out again into the Wilderness
Wanderings and the construction of the Tabernacle. But the journey is not just about days gone by. It continues
today for all those who choose to walk with G-d. This commentary series follows the weekly Torah
(Pentateuch) readings from the synagogue, along with the related Haftarah (Prophets and Writings) and Brit
Hadashah (“New Testament”) readings. Dr. Jeff Feinberg is leader of Congregation Etz Chaim in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, where he encourages
Jews and Gentiles, believers in Yeshua and those with willing hearts, to search for G-d in His Word.
Torah is his song, nurturing others in the Word of G-d his passion. Jeff has taught at all levels and
chaired education nationally for the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations. He has studied at the university of
California at Berkeley, University of Chicago, Stanford University, Trinity International university, and the UMJC
Yeshiva. (Bio information from the UMJC website.)
We were privileged to sit under Jeff's teaching at the Messiah 2001 conference. He is a
delightful story-teller and gifted Torah teacher.
This series is featured in our Devotional Department. |
