The Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, exalts Allah
above the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It is critical to understand
that in the Qur'an, Allah specifically distinguishes himself as NOT
the God of the Bible. For a believer in HaShem, the God of Avraham,
Yitzchak, and Ya'akov (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob), to recite the Adhan
would be the highest form of blasphemy.
“Allah is the greatest.
I bear witness that there is no god except Allah.
I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Make haste towards prayer.
Make haste towards welfare/success.
Prayer is better than sleep.
Allah is the greatest!
There is no god except Allah.”
Adhan
Other Commonly Used Spellings: AADHAN, ADHAAN
The call for the
daily prayers are called Adhan. The person who calls the Adhan is called a
Mu'adhin. A Mu'adhin calls the Adhan five times a day before Muslims are
to perform their daily Salah (prayers). The Adhan is composed of specific
words and phrases to be recited loudly in the Arabic language so that the
neighbors can recognize the time schedule for the prayers.
The third and
fourth prayer portion, or Rak`ah, contain the phrase “Glory be to
Allah, and praise be to Allah; there is no god but Allah, and Allah is
Greater.” What the “People of the Book” — a term used in Islam to
refer to Jews and Christians — need to be asking is “Greater than whom?”
Hear what
ADONAI
Eloheinu, the G-d of Avraham, Yitzhak, and Ya'akov — the
G-d of the Bible — says to Allah:
“How did you come
to fall from the heavens, Morning Star, son of the dawn? How did you come
to be cut to the ground, conqueror of nations? You thought to yourself, ‘I
will scale the heavens, I will raise my throne above God’s stars. I will
sit on the Mount of Assembly far away in the north. I will rise past the
tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High.’
“Instead you are
brought down to Sh'ol, to the uttermost depths of the pit. Those who see
you will stare at you, reflecting on what has become of you: ‘Is this the
man who shook the earth, who made kingdoms tremble, who made the world a
desert, who destroyed its cities, who would not set his prisoners free?’
All other kings of the nations, all of them, lie in glory, each in his
tomb. But you are discarded, unburied, like a loathed branch, clothed like
the slain who were pierced by the sword, then fall to the stones inside a
pit, like a corpse to be trampled underfoot.” (Isaiah
14:12-19, CJB)
